Our Story

MerJ Co-Founders Satto and Nicole met through mutual friends after coincidentally working for the same architectural firm at different points in their careers. After realizing their shared interest in cannabis design and cultivation, the two seasoned architects decided to form their own firm dedicated exclusively to supporting the fast-growing cannabis industry.

The name ‘MerJ’ was initially tongue-in-cheek, intended as a literal reference to the merging of Satto and Nicole’s joint passions for and expertise in cannabis and architecture. They were fusing and focusing their efforts and used the ‘M’ and ‘J’ spelling as a nod to ‘Mary Jane’. Turns out, ‘Mraj’ is an ancient Chinese word for marijuana! Centuries later, ‘Merj’ showed up on urban dictionary with usage to insinuate MJ, so the MerJ name wound up to have a much deeper (and on brand!) meaning.
